The books and documents you add, your reading position, highlights, notes, bookmarks, quiz results, reading statistics and settings are stored on your device. They are not uploaded unless you export a backup.
When you use Explain, Catch me up, Define, quizzes, text rewrites or AI picks, the passage or chapter you chose (and, for AI picks, the titles in your library) is sent to Scrine’s server and on to Anthropic, which generates the answer. Anthropic processes that text under its own terms and does not use it to train models. Cover lookups send a book’s title and author to Open Library. Explore and free-book downloads send your searches to Project Gutenberg. Links you add are fetched through Scrine’s server.
You can use Scrine without an account. If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives Scrine a unique identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. If you sign in with email, Scrine stores that address and sends a one-time code to it. These are used only to recognise you and keep your subscription with you across devices. You can delete your account in Settings at any time; that removes the account, its sign-in details and its sessions from Scrine’s server.
Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. Scrine does not see your payment details. Scrine’s server keeps a record of your subscription (product and expiry date), verified against Apple’s signature, so the AI features can tell which plan you are on.
To run the AI features fairly, Scrine’s server keeps a count of AI use per device or account for the current month. This count is not linked to the content of what you read.
Scrine does not sell your data, show ads, use tracking, or build profiles from what you read.
Scrine is not directed at children under 13.
